Dynamic text color on conditional formatted table cells

It would be fantastic if the text color in a conditionally formatted cell swapped between white and black depending on the background color of the cell. Without this, many conditional formatting color presets are unusable…

For example, in light mode, the dark red cells here would benefit from having white text. I’d say even the darker green cells also could benefit.

The opposite is true in dark mode: the lightest cells are nearly impossible to read with white text (but now the darkest cells look great)

Is the dream for us to do this automatically or give you light/dark controls? When we’ve tried to automate this sort of thing we usually run into strong opinions on the gradient cuts.

Hey @colin ! Yeah, I think automatic would be ideal (I’ve seen this adopted in other tools without having to fiddle with custom settings myself) but if this seems to be divisive, I suppose controls would be a better route to go.

”Automatic” example from another tool:

Makes sense, we’ll take a look here.
